Middle of Orientation

Hi all,
It is the middle of orientation, and I think it is going well. We are keeping our heads above water...although we don't have any time to do anything besides work, eat, work, sleep, work, etc. (and take 5 minutes to update the blog...but really I should be sleeping). This weekend will be pretty full. Steve is nearing the end of training his RA's. They had a meeting here today and made pizzas together. We love our student leaders! They are great to work with.
Here are a couple of pictures that I took during orientation today.

The weather has been GORGEOUS the past couple of days, Praise God! Hopefully it will be nice for the next few.

They had to fit their whole group onto a small piece of cardboard. They succeeded!

Steve and I will each teach a first year seminar class. Here is a picture of mine (by a big spider web, one of the many games/initiatives the students have played, and will play during orientation).

That's all for now. Tomorrow is a full day.

1st Year Student Orientation starts tomorrow!

Pray for a smooth weekend!
We are so busy right now, but I think doing ok. Will be better when school starts and things can calm down a little bit. Hopefully.
Hope you are well!

Good Morning!

Just a quick note to let you know we're doing ok. We have one last week to get everything ready...and then the students start pouring in!

Yesterday we went on a retreat with the Student Life Staff at a sauna. It was a great time of team-building and sauna-ing. I think it will be a good year!

Itin for the rest of August:
Today-Saturday: get ready for students to arrive
Sunday-Wed: student leader training (and students start arriving)
Thursday-Monday: First Year Student Orienation
Tuesday September 1: School starts

Hope everyone is well!

Prayer Request

It's Monday at 6pm here, and after one full day I am reminded about how busy we will be, even (and especially for me) before students arrive.

Pray for calmness, and for supernatural organizational skills...as we get ready for all students to move into the dorms, as we get ready to train our leaders, as we get ready for orientation (all these happen prior to September 1st).

We would greatly appreciate it!

Home Sweet Home!

Well, we've officially been here a week, and so as promised, here are some pictures of our apartment. I took them earlier today, and if I could turn back time, I would've paid more attention to the lighting. Ah well. We are going to savor the natural lighting the sun provides. If I post more pictures in the winter when we need to have more lights on and use the flash...then the pictures will (ironically) look less dark and gloomy.

We are blessed with a really nice, cute little apartment. It has a little entryway (and we can get in from the outside, or go through the dorm entryway...nice to have options), a kitchen that is connected to the living room, a bathroom with a tub in it as well as a small washing machine...and a bedroom with no windows (excellent for falling asleep...not so great for waking up, jetlag or not).

If I remember right, last year, when I did a photo tour, I also whipped up a little floor plan on paint. So I decided to do that again this year, so you can have a little bird's eye view to couple with the pictures. Again, as with last year, it is not to scale, and I did it 5 minutes or less. So pardon the quality, it's not meant to be artwork.

Here is that:

Here are the pictures, with descriptions above them:

I am standing in the entryway looking into the living room, the kitchen table is in front of me, the couch on the other side separates the kitchen from the living room. The couch Steve is sitting on opens up to be a hide-a-bed.

Looking a little to the left of the living room, is the door to our bedroom.

Standing in the corner of the kitchen. The door to the left is the door to the bathroom; the door to the right is our bedroom...the living room is to my right.

Standing in the bedroom door looking at our bed and dresser.

Closet at the foot of the bed (the doors slide).

Now we're in the bathroom. When you walk into the bathroom, to the right is the tub/shower...which is now what you are looking at. We are living in luxury (didn't have a tub last year)!

When you walk into the bathroom, to the left is a washing machine. In front of you is the sink/mirror and toilet (as you can see).

Here again, from the doorway (a slightly different angle).

Turning around, but still standing in the bathroom doorway, we are now looking at the kitchen. On top of the cupboards (right side of the picture) is a paper chain to count down the days until Hannah and Eva visit.

Another look into the kitchen, as seen from the living room. The doorway without a door leads out into the little entryway/hallway. Everything that we didn't have a place for got put out there. So...when we get it a little more cleaned up, we might take a picture of it and put it on here. :)

So that's our place...we have everything we need! We are very blessed.

In other news, I have a different office. I am now moved into (but not unpacked) an office in the main building on campus (the office I was in last year is about 50 steps away from our current apartment). So now I will have an excuse to get out of the building every day, which will be good for me.

We officially start on Monday, but already have been doing work related things here and there. This will be a very busy fall -- especially the first months or so.

One thing that you can be praying for:
Someone has applied for the Leadership Coordinator position, intending to start in January (at the start of spring semester). Pray that that position would be filled....it would take a huge weight off of my shoulders! The person just applied...not hired yet, or committed to anything for sure...but sounds positive. Pray that it works out!

Alright. It is late. Time to sleep.

Hope you are well!
